The last week of the semester. Before the presentation, Ardavan faced some problems with his videos and the table of contents have not been touched. To make things easier and before Wednesday as we need to return the Ipad to the school, I took the task on setting up and implenting the interaction on the table of contents. Ardavan gave the necesary files to me and I quickly worked on the interaction in Adobe Edge Animate. I've also get the coverpage for the Tips article and the editorial board page, so that I can test the jump link. Once the interaction were completed, I tried to figure out how to jump link on the HTML file the table of contents were in. I made place shapes to figure the position of the page number. With a few test, it didn't work so I edited the interaction again and as I want to view it, problem arose on the Mag+ Production Tool as the MIB file have an issue on creating or writing the review file. The problem was later solved with a reboot on the laptop and I continued adjusting the clickable area for the jump link to work without any sudden interaction that can disrupt the experience. Despite most my parts are done, we still need to make our own advertisements for each articles. In my article, I created a clearance sale advertisement banner for a self- imaginary kitchen appliances shop called "Pro Kitchen". I created in Adobe Illustrator and later add interactive animation in Adobe Edge Animate. Once done, I place the advertisement banner below the ingredient page. The full ad will appear when click on the utensils. Later, I realised we don't have a guide navigation page and I volunteered on doing it so as most of the icons that are inside the digital magazine are with me in PNG or Illustrator. I also add two circles, one orange with with rings and black with white rings to indicate the clickable buttons in table of contents, picture gallery in the interview page and tips. On Wednesday, my group started to compile most of the pages. Some of them have some technical issues and have to rewrite and transfer from one desktop to another but we managed to fix it and compile it. All was left was the main magazine cover which was with Ardavan. On Thursday he gave me the files and said there's some parts he was unable to fix and if the problem still cannot be solved, I can proceed with compiling. When I looked into the files, I did some edit and resizing of the video and testing in the Ipad. After that, I

On week 12, I've add the videos in each of the pages that have the steps in making the sushi. While I was doing so I thought the video will be played inside the circle but the circle was just for image and the video was to pop up when clicked on the play button. As the video was insert into the page, the video has a clickable area to play the video but I wanted the play button to pop up the video. I tried assigning the play button to the video but there is no linking to it. Instead, I shrink and position video clickable area to the play button. As for the page number, I wanted to create a jump link and Mr Razif told me how to do so but somehow it doesn't work. On week 13, I told Mr Razif about the problem and he told me I have to export all the pages and then view it on the Ipad by going to the production tool. From there all the tutorial pages are done and later teach Ardavan how to create the jump link for the table of content page. As I review the all videos that are assign to the pages, I realised it was boring and later added Japanese themed music into it by using Adobe Premiere Pro. Completed, Ardavan told me that the title on the cover video should appear at the end. Moreover, he also said that it need some design, so I added lines at the corner and have to re- position so that they'll align with the video. Finally, my part of the digital magazine are done and everything are working perfecty in the Ipad.
This week, I was working on the interactive buttons for the ingredient page. The functionality was done in Adobe Edge Animate and was later publish in oam file and web as well. At first my plan is to do the buttons separately and publish to oam file and export to Indesign but it doesn't appear on the Ipad using the Mag+ fast review. So I consulted with Mr Razif and recommended me to use the html file instead and it is better if the buttons are done in one file. It was a challenge as I kept editing and publish the file because of it's position and size but later I managed to complete my first functionality for my ingredient page.
Next, Ardavan gave me to videos to look at and I converted the videos from AVI to MP4 with the appropriate size. Then, I edited my video for the tutorial cover that I've worked earlier by improving, shorten it and add the title and sub title to it. I test it and it worked perfectly. For Week 10, I didn't do much to show on the digital magazine because of other projects. However, I took the time to put in the background and contents into the pages I was working out, leaving out some space for the video tutorial. When adjusting the font size, position and placement of icons, it was not easy to follow exactly and had to make some changes inside Indesign then comparing the details in the prototype but it still looks exactly the same.
During the presentation, my team and I compile our prototype design of the digital magazine. However, after that Mr Razif commented and suggested on some of our designs, layout and placement could use some more work and adjustments. Later, we revised the pages again with better design, placement and examples of interactivity and how it'll look like including page numbering. We also retake the picture of the chef again on Wednesday. In the page numbering, the three of us got so confused but managed to settle everything before our one week mid- semester break. Later, I compile the whole pages in Mag+ Designer Tool, test it out on the Ipad and submit to Mr Razif via Google Drive. For this week, my group and I started to do the prototype design. My task was working on the Tutorial Page. Moreover, I tried editing the video for the cover of the digital magazine including the article cover for the tutorial page but my team members that the editing can do it later and finishing the prototype is top priority. I gave the edited main cover page of the digital magazine (edited in video form, gave the png/jpg of the picture) so that he can work on it. At first I work on the article cover page which look something like this: Fara said to try another background and so I try finding a few that it's suitable for it especially when the video is playing. So I came out of this design, adding more interesting headline: Later, I design the tutorial pages. At first, it's look plain and all black and white as I show it to Mr Razif and suggested to put background and addition a breadcrumb or logo for the digital magazine. I put background but Ardavan suggested to use some white space as well. I tried many ways to make it better without ruining the wireframe references we did. Later, I showed to my team members and Ardavan said that it's much better and I continue to do some tweaking on the rest of the pages.
From the last unfortunate week, we were able to meet up together for the video shoot on Monday. Even though is a rough start, like we bought the wrong thing or accidentally buy another extra type of ingredients and forgot to buy the ingredient, but we managed to finish it before class.
We started off in kitchen tips which is more easier and also we can buy the seaweed when the nearby Japanese restaurant in campus. We later video shoot the tutorial and have trouble time in making the sushi. Even though it doesn't look like the video tutorial we saw but it still works. We also use the green screen to record our video for the cover page of the digital magazine. Later in class, we show our videos to Mr Razif and him noticed that our camera is auto focusing the whole time, making our video blur and clear at the same time. Unfortunately, we have to record again and Mr Razif allowed us to record again during his time slot on Wednesday. On Wednesday, I managed to meet up with Hendrick in the morning for the interview page. Me and Fara went into the kitchen while Ardavan look after our bags and equipment. However, when we were taking picture in the kitchen, we realised he was too busy when we tried taking pictures without interfering their work time in the kitchen. Again we asked Hendrick when is he on break and told me to ask my sister who was preparing her turn to lead the restaurant on Thursday. We managed to arranged the time and soon Ardavan, Fara and me went up to the studio again to finish off the videos for kitchen tips, tutorial and cover page. Finally we managed to finish off all the recording and later went back to the kitchen for the interview pages, this time Ardavan and Fara went into the kitchen. Then, Fara told us that for the interview cover page we should do on Thursday because the wall around the kitchen is not suitable and meet the chef again on Thursday morning. In the end we managed to get all of our videos and pictures done by this week. On Thursday, we wanted to do our video for the kitchen tips but unfortunately, the lecturer who is in charge of the key for the studio was absent including any other lecturers as the school have an exercise to test their online delivery of classes. At the same time, the chef we wanted to take picture of, was unwell and told me to postponed to next week. So, the three of us tried to work out on the outline and design of the magazine instead. I even tried to ask for an Ipad so I can test but Mr Jeffery who may have them was not around and only Monday he can give but it was no point because I'm still going to meet Mr Razif. :p I tried to work out some parts of my tutorial page outline for the digital magazine but it wasn't much to look at. I try to create the ingredient buttons for the user to click on and work on the interactivity in Adobe Edge Animate. However, I may need some help in transferring the interactivity of the button to Adobe Indesign as it position looks different and it was not transparent to overlay to the page. I also worked on the storyboard for the 2 sushi tutorial, four season maki sushi and the temaki hand roll. As for the kitchen tips each of us took at least one or two. For my part, I chose the skinning of the ginger. Trying much I can, but at last I didn't get to test out on handheld devices. My mum actually owned a android tablet but I was too busy on developing and testing the buttons for the ingredient page, magazine outline and other projects as well.
On 28 September, Wednesday, we had a discussion on the kitchen tips. We narrowed it down to:
The next day, I tried to ask my sister help on requesting her friend, the chef we want to interview about the magazine article we want to put into the digital magazine. Thankfully, my sister told me that he accepted to help us out. On Saturday morning before I left for a road trip, I got the chef's number, Hendrick and gave the interview questions:
These are his answers:
After that, I tried to arranged with chef Hendrick to meet up for the photo shoot next Thursday since we've decided to shoot the rest of our videos as well. Fortunately, he did gave a reply and will meet him next Thursday morning. For this week, we tried to finalised the ideas and divide our tasks on what we do. We also did another design for one of the digital magazine page which is the end credit page or the editorial board page. So Ardavan, gave an idea and sketch it out. The user will look onto the page with half of the editorial staffs pictures. It will slide to reveal the full picture and the content are the tasks of the the staffs in making the digital magazine. We work on the slides in two days and on Thursday we presented our slides. However, during the presentation our magazine title OISHI was recommended to be changed as the name is widely use in one food and beverage company. So Ardavan asked me use the Google Translate to translate the word taste and the name AJI was used in our magazine. Below are the slides. Edited with the new name of the magazine. |
