During the presentation, my team and I compile our prototype design of the digital magazine. However, after that Mr Razif commented and suggested on some of our designs, layout and placement could use some more work and adjustments. Later, we revised the pages again with better design, placement and examples of interactivity and how it'll look like including page numbering. We also retake the picture of the chef again on Wednesday. In the page numbering, the three of us got so confused but managed to settle everything before our one week mid- semester break. Later, I compile the whole pages in Mag+ Designer Tool, test it out on the Ipad and submit to Mr Razif via Google Drive.

For this week, my group and I started to do the prototype design. My task was working on the Tutorial Page. Moreover, I tried editing the video for the cover of the digital magazine including the article cover for the tutorial page but my team members that the editing can do it later and finishing the prototype is top priority. I gave the edited main cover page of the digital magazine (edited in video form, gave the png/jpg of the picture) so that he can work on it. At first I work on the article cover page which look something like this: Fara said to try another background and so I try finding a few that it's suitable for it especially when the video is playing. So I came out of this design, adding more interesting headline: Later, I design the tutorial pages. At first, it's look plain and all black and white as I show it to Mr Razif and suggested to put background and addition a breadcrumb or logo for the digital magazine. I put background but Ardavan suggested to use some white space as well. I tried many ways to make it better without ruining the wireframe references we did. Later, I showed to my team members and Ardavan said that it's much better and I continue to do some tweaking on the rest of the pages.
From the last unfortunate week, we were able to meet up together for the video shoot on Monday. Even though is a rough start, like we bought the wrong thing or accidentally buy another extra type of ingredients and forgot to buy the ingredient, but we managed to finish it before class.
We started off in kitchen tips which is more easier and also we can buy the seaweed when the nearby Japanese restaurant in campus. We later video shoot the tutorial and have trouble time in making the sushi. Even though it doesn't look like the video tutorial we saw but it still works. We also use the green screen to record our video for the cover page of the digital magazine. Later in class, we show our videos to Mr Razif and him noticed that our camera is auto focusing the whole time, making our video blur and clear at the same time. Unfortunately, we have to record again and Mr Razif allowed us to record again during his time slot on Wednesday. On Wednesday, I managed to meet up with Hendrick in the morning for the interview page. Me and Fara went into the kitchen while Ardavan look after our bags and equipment. However, when we were taking picture in the kitchen, we realised he was too busy when we tried taking pictures without interfering their work time in the kitchen. Again we asked Hendrick when is he on break and told me to ask my sister who was preparing her turn to lead the restaurant on Thursday. We managed to arranged the time and soon Ardavan, Fara and me went up to the studio again to finish off the videos for kitchen tips, tutorial and cover page. Finally we managed to finish off all the recording and later went back to the kitchen for the interview pages, this time Ardavan and Fara went into the kitchen. Then, Fara told us that for the interview cover page we should do on Thursday because the wall around the kitchen is not suitable and meet the chef again on Thursday morning. In the end we managed to get all of our videos and pictures done by this week. On Thursday, we wanted to do our video for the kitchen tips but unfortunately, the lecturer who is in charge of the key for the studio was absent including any other lecturers as the school have an exercise to test their online delivery of classes. At the same time, the chef we wanted to take picture of, was unwell and told me to postponed to next week. So, the three of us tried to work out on the outline and design of the magazine instead. I even tried to ask for an Ipad so I can test but Mr Jeffery who may have them was not around and only Monday he can give but it was no point because I'm still going to meet Mr Razif. :p I tried to work out some parts of my tutorial page outline for the digital magazine but it wasn't much to look at. I try to create the ingredient buttons for the user to click on and work on the interactivity in Adobe Edge Animate. However, I may need some help in transferring the interactivity of the button to Adobe Indesign as it position looks different and it was not transparent to overlay to the page. I also worked on the storyboard for the 2 sushi tutorial, four season maki sushi and the temaki hand roll. As for the kitchen tips each of us took at least one or two. For my part, I chose the skinning of the ginger. Trying much I can, but at last I didn't get to test out on handheld devices. My mum actually owned a android tablet but I was too busy on developing and testing the buttons for the ingredient page, magazine outline and other projects as well.
On 28 September, Wednesday, we had a discussion on the kitchen tips. We narrowed it down to:
The next day, I tried to ask my sister help on requesting her friend, the chef we want to interview about the magazine article we want to put into the digital magazine. Thankfully, my sister told me that he accepted to help us out. On Saturday morning before I left for a road trip, I got the chef's number, Hendrick and gave the interview questions:
These are his answers:
After that, I tried to arranged with chef Hendrick to meet up for the photo shoot next Thursday since we've decided to shoot the rest of our videos as well. Fortunately, he did gave a reply and will meet him next Thursday morning. |
