On 20 September, Tuesday, the presentation started and my my project proposal slides has been created and presented through Google Slides with all the findings, reasons, concept and the story. Here are the slides: After my presentation, I started to research again, more towards the animals. Even though I’ve created my story and started to create the storyboard for the full animation part of the story, I have to search what animals should I use in the project and animations on the animals’ flashback of humans. The list of endangered animals are large but I decided to choose 5 animals that children may love, know and like. I narrowed it down to endangered animals in the jungle that are in the South East Asia, more specifically in Malaysia, Borneo and Sumatra.
The chosen animals are:
Human activities towards the endangerment of animals are also large but three activities were chosen based on what children will know that this is happening:
Since I've decided on doing interactive video, the topic I want to focus is to create awareness to endangered animals. To create something that is eye- catching and informative for children to learn our world's environment, I planned on implementing animated stories before they can interact. The title of the story will be called "Eyes of the Mist". So what is it about? The story start off in the middle of the jungle where a creature made by mists. The creature explores the jungle and see the creatures. Each of the creatures are ready to be interacted, and contains information regarding the animal. As the user finished interacting the animals in the screen, the story will continue with it's animation and later show another interaction. That part of interaction will show the human activities that causes the problem. As it continues through animations, the creatures of the mist became angry and wanted to punish humankind but was a small orb of light suddenly appear and reason with it that there are humans trying to protect the rain forest. This part of the story shows the last part of the interaction, the human solution in saving the animals and the rain forests. In continuation, hearing the reason of the light, the creature of the mist holds it's punishment towards mankind. It said, "If humans truly care about the wildlife of the world, they will continue to live. However, if humans did not keep their duty towards about it, they will face the punishment they deserve." And that, the creatures disappears but the small light believed that there is hope for all living beings. To make the story and the interactivity, I created a flow chart on how the interactive video works. From all of the research to the framework of the project, I started to create slides for my upcoming presentation. In this personal project, I was required to think of what I want to do. In my first week, I had an idea of wanting to do a animated video incorporating values that can teach children and I also love writing and creating stories. However, I look back on my previous animation work and realised my skills still need some practising as my animation is isn't so fluid. Then, I thought again that my current animation is more likely suited in interactive animation web. I thought and thought of wanting to do animation so I decided to create a combination of interactive web and animated video. I tried finding interactive web that shows storytelling and one of them is The Hybrid Graphic Novel by Peugeot Hybrid4 (graphicnovel-hybrid4.peugeot.com/start.html). During the next class on Week 2, Mr Vincent shows few videos on design ideas and how it can provide to the community. Wanting to create a story and thought of putting informative articles together but I needed to think of a problem statement and the solution. I re- think again and found a problem statement; to raise awareness of endangered animals and the reason they are decreased in numbers. The target audience I want to influenced are children aged 8 to 13 and if possible teenagers. The reason why I chose the selected target audience is because children are easily influenced by the things and subject around them and parents will listen to them on what they want or share stories on the child's achievement or situation, creating a conversation between parents and child. Moreover, children are getting smarter with the technology and problems surrounding them, us and the world (knowledge resulted from 1 session of Bible study on children and youths ;p). As a referenced, I looked into the interactive website about 30 endangered animals around the world, "In Pieces" (www.species-in-pieces.com/#). Another inspiration is Junko's Story: Surviving Hiroshima's Atomic Bomb. It is a interactive web talking about a real story of a atomic bomb survivor with side images that contain informative articles. www.sbs.com.au/hiroshima/ However, I tried finding websites that have a combination of the interactive animation above and animated video but with no avail. Interactive e- books are another option of inspiration for my idea. Later, I finally found the content I was looking for, remembering a senior did shared something two year back, so what similar I want to do, a interactive video which can be found here: www.coldplay.com/ink/. With a clear idea of creating what I want, an interactive video, I can start planning on my project.
