21st September 2017 Rebecca Tang Hui Fang (0317759) Personal Project 2: New Boundaries Project Proposal Lecture: A brief of Personal Project 2 from Ms Lillian of what we should be doing for the next 10 weeks from proposal to final outcome. Then, we proceeded to our individual consultation on what we planned to do. Instructions: The Brief Personal Project Duration of Assignment 13 Weeks Deadline Week 14 Description The goal of this module is to encourage students to explore their chosen fields by creating and managing an individual project. This assignment will emphasize on individual investigation and discovery while remaining open to collaborative projects that may cross disciplines within the department/industry (new media, digital design, printmaking, photo, advertising, etc.). Experimentation is strongly encouraged, as is strong technique, craft and attention to detail. The project is to be developed from one of these three options:
1. Project Proposal & Development Once you have decided the direction of your project, you will need to prepare a proposal brief explaining the reasons for your project and how you intend to carry it out. Be realistic with your proposal, as you have limited amount of time, resources and energy to do so but at the same time allowing you to exercise your creative skills beyond your comfort zone. You will have 11 weeks to work on your project by developing your proposed ideas into an actual outcome through independent research for solutions and peer feedbacks to help you gain audience insights about the project from the development process to UIX and designs. Remember, constant updates and feedbacks will help you build better outcome. Project Documentation & Portfolio You will also need to document your progress as part of your project portfolio through reflective writing. Indicate highlights of your progress, major learning process, what have you learnt and any mistakes that you should avoid in the future. Project Presentation & Demonstration Video As a future designer embarking into the industry, you will also need to be able to project yourself and your ideas into the virtual world. You will present your project via 3 – 5 minutes video explaining what your project is all about and a product/outcome demonstration in the video or details close up of the designs and aesthetic builds. Submission All of your works must be accessible online:
Feedback: After explaining my proposal that relates with my Final Project animation on toxic relationship, Ms Lillian gave me some feedback and suggestions to my personal project. As I explain to her that I decided to do an augmented reality (AR) card as my original intention was lenticular print but there were difficulties on availability of the lenticular film and the print shops doing so. Reference to my original idea: By using the same concept of the lenticular idea, it was only switched slightly to AR. Moreover, I decided to put some motion graphic on the pictures that was going to use for AR. The comparison of the FYP story to the real depiction as reference: When Ms Lillian asked me how many AR cards I'm planning to do, I told her 2 to 3 cards but she explained that's not enough as this personal project is a whole different module despite the project is related to the final and the content of it is not to be included or in similarity to the final output of the animation. Then, she told me that instead of only having the AR cards, I should try to promote my animation. She suggested having a sort-of movie poster for the animation and told me to think of other materials that can promote my animation. So, I decided on my third merchandise that it will button badges.
The proposal are as below: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ PRJ60205 PERSONAL PROJECT 2 NEW BOUNDARIES PROPOSAL Name: REBECCA TANG HUI FANG Student ID: 031779 Date: 18 SEPTEMBER 2017 The project is to be developed from one of these three options:

Choose 1 direction and elaborate it here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Direction An idea generated from your Final Year Project but not included into the final output. Title The Real Depiction of ‘Mine’ Description From my Final Year project, I generated an idea of combining pictures of two different realities describing toxic relationship using Augmented Reality (AR). ‘Mine’ is an upcoming animation about a girl struggling in the control of a green girl as a metaphor of a toxic relationship or friendship. Using augmented reality, audience can the correlate metaphors of toxic relationship with motion images of the real life depiction of the issue. Moreover, to promote the animation itself with through print materials. Aim & Objective To create an understanding of toxic relationship. Comparing the metaphorical depiction of toxic relationship and the actual fact and meaning of the story. Concept Using one picture that relates to the metaphorical story of toxic relationship and compare the other picture of the real life depiction of it. Target audience Youths (aged 13-14) and young adults (aged 18-35) Methodology / Software/ Medium/ Technic Creating the content using Photoshop and other drawing software, then using After Effect for slight motions and animations. Later, export the video file to Unity and Vuforia to the generate AR. For posters and badges, they will be done in Photoshop and Illustrator. Outcome 2 series of AR cards in 5 inches X 3-½ inches in size (postcard), A3 size poster, 3 series of badges which contain the metaphorical and real life depiction characters and others. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Reflection Experience My experience for today is that Ms Lillian was open and helpful. I actually shared my initial idea about lenticular print and the difficulty in finding places to do so, the pricing of the special sheet where she too agree that it wasn't easy. Even I finished explained my current idea to her, she told me things straight away that I should do more that just my AR cards. She encouraged me to find ways to 'promote' my animation about toxic relationship. For one, a poster for my animation and she told me to think something else I can do for the other. She was a great help. Observation From my observation on my conversation from Ms Lillian, I really need to think and do more than I can. The reality that I required to do more, is because it's different from my Final Year. And also, the idea of AR cards took 80% of the class to do so which may need to have something a bit different to look on during the exhibition. With Ms Lillian's idea of promoting my animation, it may give me a good opportunity to showcase of skills. Findings When Ms Lillian said that there's a lot she can think of for my third option of promoting or merchandising, I too have ideas of what I can do with bookmarks, button badges, etc. Since I don't know much on merchandising, I may have to research more on what I can do and what I should know, especially if I choose to make 3 series of button badges for my third promotion of my animation.
